It all began with childhood frequent illness that made author Nancy W. Y. Ho weak and not as active as other kids. She felt that other kids thought that she was stupid and lazy. In her young mind, she thought she might not be able to do anything with her dumbness but she vowed that she would never be lazy. She kept that promise for herself by always working hard in her life. As such, not only she was doing well in school and earned a doctoral degree in science, but she also become a successful scientist. Her most important contribution as a scientist was that she had created a unique yeast that can help to solve the world’s energy problem for transportation. For this achievement, she was recognized by scientists, industries world wide as well as by Presidents of the United States. In 2016, she also received the National Medal for Technology and Innovation, the highest honor engineers and scientists can receive from the US government.
